After an unexpected comeback with new music in 2023, the Swell season has announced a full-scale return with their first new album of 16 years.
The duo – consisting of Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová – announced that the new album Forward would arrive on June 13, with the latest single “Stuck in Reverse” that accompanies the news.
“It felt right that the title of the mail Forward Because it’s a reunion of kind, but we don’t go backwards, “Irglová said in a statement.” Both of us have grown and changed; We are different places and get to know each other as the new people we have become. ”
First formed in 2005, the couple released a self-deprecated album the following year and got broad attention after they were in the lead roles of John Carney’s 2007 movie Once. In 2008, their track “Falling Slowly” took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song, with Second Album Strict joy After the next year you reached No. 15 on Billboard 200.
Although a number of sporadic performances have taken place since, the couple would release “The answer is yes” in 2023, their first new piece of music for well over a decade. It was this recording session that inspired a possible return. “After our whirlwind, which led up to Oscars, and afterwards we were so busy, and with that came a pressure that none of us especially wanted, and in the end we did kind of in the middle of all the hard work and party,” Hansard explained.
“We remained good friends, helped each other’s records, followed each other’s families. While touring in my last record, I realized I just missed her. I remember calling Marketa and saying, ‘Do you want to make some performances?’ She said, ‘Yes, that sounds good,’ and the performances went really well.
“From there, the idea was to make a little recording and put no pressure on it, just see what’s happening, and suddenly we found ourselves making a record,” he added. “And we were both completely in it, and then here we are a new chapter in our lives.”
After recently performing a trio of dates over New York City and Boston in March, the couple will embark on a race of shows throughout Europe and Britain in May, before another North American returns during the summer.
