Don’t you feel good when your schedule back to one last interview? Too often, people oblige these tabs before going back to the final. The result runs to be heartache and disappointment. Let me help you win this round.
Another stupid CV -Error
I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. I am a coach who helps people professionally in a variety of ways. I used to work in search, did it in hell for a long time, helped many people find work. And now I train people for new roles.
I want to talk to you about the big last interview -Blonde, I keep seeing happening time and time again. And that’s terrible. Now let me explain how it’s created. You get in touch. It’s a call, it’s an e -mail, it’s a message that lets you know you’re going back to the final and you feel you’ve got this locked. You go back to the final. But you forget one thing and don’t do the other.
What you forget is that you are still competing. And as such
You compete against other people or the idea that there is someone else out there that can do this better than you. As a result, I will not say that you coast into that interview, but you are not as well prepared as you could be.
You must always remember that you are competing for roles. And when you get that contact about planning the last interview, ask them how many other people are they invite back. This way you know. And even if they tell you “Nobody, it’s just you,” I’ve seen so many situations where people are still rejected and they go back to Square One to interview.
How fatal is this cover letter error?
So it’s a reminder, number one. Here’s the big one. The big thing is that you do not spend time reviewing your previous interviews. It’s not just for what your answers were because it’s easy. But the difficult thing to admit is that there were rough edges that happened earlier. And they are still on it and you think they’re past it.
They are not past it. They are in a position where they still evaluate and evaluate and try to find out if they can get through these problems and you are okay enough to hire. And that’s a strange concept. I know. But believe me. I have been in so many situations where problems appeared on the first or second conversation, and here they are with a senior exec. And the person is rejected for them.
So I will remind you that you must proactively tackle these in your conversation with them and be prepared to answer questions that may come to the surface. And you can acknowledge it by saying, “You know, in an earlier round, someone asked me a question that the kind seemed like they wanted me to talk this way. But I went down another way. Let me tell you exactly what I’ve done.” And it becomes a way and a type of scenario.
Another is that you do not have much experience with it where you can say to them. “Look, I don’t have much practical experience with the particular skill or type of situation. But since I’m here, what I’ve done” and then go into some of the homework you’ve done to understand more what that scenario, what technology, how that experience can be.
And you can say, “I don’t want to be an expert going in. But with practice I can because I have taken the time to understand what is needed considering your environment. And I have gone to the drawing board to learn.”
Remember that this is going to get on the surface and if it is not going to surface because they have to ask you a question, I want you to bring it up so it is not imprecise, it is not unaddened.
