Rupaul’s drag race Star Hormona Lisa stood with her community on Monday (February 10) when she called President Donald Trump for pushing an anti-transgender agenda within his first few weeks back in the office. (Spoilers in front of section six of Rupaul’s drag race).
In an elimination interview with Entertainment weeklyChattanooga Drag Performer talked about her experience in seeing the current administration is trying to strip the transfer community in their constitutional protection through a series of executing orders.
“It’s hard to find the words to describe how I feel because I didn’t think I should feel that way in my lifetime,” she said. “I thought that fighting to be appreciated as a person and seen as a person was over … Now we go backwards with how these people do not see us as human. It’s crazy. “
During his first few weeks back, Trump has signed an alarming number of executive orders aimed at further marginalization of the trans community in the United States. Among a flurry of other actions, Trump declared that the country would only recognize two genders, tried to withdraw federal funding for gender-affirming care of trans-youth, tried to ban trans athletes from competing in women’s school sports, and aimed to prevent transnry people from serving in the US military. Most of these executive orders aimed at the trans community are already disputed by transient proponents through the justice system.
Like a trans woman, Lisa explained that she has already learned to “validate and love myself [so] I do not need it externally, “which is a practice she encouraged those who read to” focus on developing “during Trump’s second period. “It won’t be the last thing that happens to trans and queer people in general,” she said. “It makes it more important to know what you bring to the table and that it has value.”
When it comes to the direction that the United States is on its way, the artist was more uncertain. “I’m struggling to put the words together because … We’re going kind of in a different direction in the last four years, with the public perception of transgender people, then you have things like this,” she said. “It feels surreal.”
Lisa was one of the 14 role crew members in Rupaul’s drag race Season 17, where she became the only queen of the season chosen by Rupaul for the competition. However, in the episode of the reality series Friday (February 7) of the reality series, Lisa held at the bottom with Lana Ja’rae after not impressing the judges of this season’s Ball Challenge. Losing his lip synchronization against Ja’rae to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Get Him Back”, Lisa became the third queen that was removed this season.
