Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter suggests bringing your tablet to an interview, especially if you are in a creative field.
Career Rebuilding
I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. I am referred to as Big Game Hunter because I have been hunting managers and staff for organizations for more than 40 years. I remember when I started recruiting and would interview people, and eventually they come to the part of the interview where they will show something they had done.
So they would reach out in their briefcase, pull out this huge binder of material, show me flow chart after flow chart of a computer system as they designed, and I would sit there with my eyes glazed over while they thumb through and try to show me things. Remember, these are the days of text and pure text and the occasional chart. It was terrible and I had no interest at all.
Now let’s go to now, and you know, instead of bringing the book to the interview to show what you have done if you are in a creative area, if you work, there is something artistic, how visually is much more important than content or or visual, is the reason why you are hired come with a tablet for your interview. Let it create for a presentation so all you have to do is give your tablet to the interviewer and be prepared to talk about what they see. To hand over a tablet, hand over your tablet to someone and let them scan at their pace of what they are interested in making and asking you questions if it is incredibly powerful.
You know, just remember that you have the opportunity with the presentation to be extremely creative in showing things in imaginative ways, and instead of boring people with these relatively flat shots, you may remember that you may have hyperlinks to give people an idea of where it was implemented. Then came again with a tablet for the interview. Give it to the interviewer.
Make sure you of course take it back at the end. Doesn’t matter what standard it is. Just let it create it as soon as it’s opened, it goes directly to the presentation.
