Months after receiving backlash for the use of AI-generated images for his “delusional” single, Kesha has announced new works of art for the track.
First released in November 2025 “Villusional” was issued as the second single from Kesha’s upcoming sixth album, . (Period). However, the original works of the track – which depicted a number of handbags with the word ‘misleading’ spray were painted on them, often wrongly – quickly criticized for its use of generative AI.
Kesha did not respond to the setback or addressed fans’ requests to order an actual artist to create new photos for the single. On Tuesday (May 20), however, she went to social media to share new works of art for the single along with an explanation of the update.
“When I made the only art for my song ‘Villusional’, I would point out that it is lost that the world expects artists to continue to make art when we are so underestimated,” she explained. “I tried to repeat my ideas in the form of a political single cover. I have realized that living in accordance with my integrity is more important than proving a point.
“So I’ve decided to change Cover Art to this song. She’s one of my favorites.”
Kesha also made a point to individually thank the creative team behind the artwork, including photographer, videographer, stylists and more. “Thank you to my crew for helping me live here in my highest and C – Test potential,” she added.
By closing his social post, Kesha also approached the elephant in space and directly moved his focus to AI’s work and the toll it can take on real ads in the process.
“AI is a Pandora’s box that we as a society have collectively opened, and I think it is important that we keep human consequences in mind when we learn to use it as a tool and not as a replacement,” she explained. “Just me healing, in real time.”
The updated artworks arrive less than two months from the release of . (Period) On July 4 through its own Kesha Records label. It also arrives as her first LP since the 2023 settlement of a long -standing legal battle with Dr. Luke about Kesha’s claims that he fooled and raped her in 2005, after which he sued her for defamation while calling the allegations “false and shockingly.”
“I’m really excited about the world to hear this because I’ve had control over everything,” she revealed Jennifer Hudson Show recently.
“It’s been my whole vision, all my words, very hard work, a lot of joy,” she continued. “To really come home to myself and feel what freedom really looks, feels like, sounds like.”
