I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. I am the main coach from jobsearch.community. And we want to tell a little story, a Aesop fable, which I think is so important I will do it in a serious way. So this comes out of the Library of Congress Site.
So it’s ants and grasshopper. A bright day in late fall, a family of ants busy in the hot sunshine, dried out the grain they had stored during the summer, when a starving grasshopper, his fiddle under his arm, came up and humbly asked for a bite to eat. What, the ants shouted surprised, haven’t hidden anything for the winter? What in all the world did you do all summer? I didn’t have time to store any food, wine, grasshopper.
I was so busy making music that before I knew it was summer away. The ants shrugged on the shoulders in disgust. To make music, were you, they cried.
Very good. Now, dance. And they turned their backs on the grasshopper and continued with their work.
Now the moral of history is that there is a time for work and a time for play. Now I don’t suggest you play in your career. You work very hard.
However, part of your career management is a network. And the time to build your network is when you don’t need it. The time to be gracious with your network is when you don’t need it.
And if you take the time the ants do in this story to build the network, it will be there for you when you need their support. If you don’t take you time no one will stop and help you because there is no relationship there. I will encourage you while times are still good, to build your network and maintain your network.
