What recruiters know you don’t do it: they don’t see all of these screening videos
Hello! I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. I am referred to as Big Game Hunter because I have been hunting managers and staff organizations for more than 40 years. Questions about Quora today.
When you apply to jobs, you prefer to fill out forms, one-click solutions like LinkedIn, do you know you are using automatically using your LinkedIn profile or a simple career specific email address? I have no idea what it is. So let me just start by saying the question has a mistake in it. And the mistake is, do you know, it suggests, do you prefer to do something? And you look at the question from the Job Hunter perspective.
And from the job hunter perspective, everyone wants the one-click solution because it does not involve any effort. But there is a mistake. And the mistake is, what does results get? And frankly, one-click solutions, you know that just sends your LinkedIn profile more often than not, because the profile is not tailored to demonstrate what you can do for the organization.
It’s a generic thing as the same generic resume sent to job after job. And the result is that you are thinking of easy submission. I am thinking about demonstrating fit and employers are considering demonstrating the fit.
Now, if your profile happens to do it, great, but most do not. So don’t take the lazy way out of here. Submit a resume.
Should I connect to people on LinkedIn who rejected me for a job?
In fact, try contacting the hiring manager, finding them by using LinkedIn, see if you have a friend who can introduce you and go into that route, rather than just say, I’d rather just sit back and get someone else to do all the work they don’t. So at the end of the day, even recruiters want to see something that watches what they are trying to find for their clients. Again, don’t be lazy about this because you will harvest the consequences of that laziness.
Now you may have the most wonderful skills on the planet, but eventually it will change and they will not be so dominant. Believe me, there are a lot of Java developers out there who were one day heroes and are now common when the skills were commoditized. It will also happen to you, a Ruby Professional, a PHP developer, a startup stomach that has run to rule Roost.
Maybe you never need another job again. Your company will settle to redeem and you become a gazillionaire. But the question is, what do you prefer? And the answer must be, I prefer a submission that gets the best results.
One click doesn’t. I’m Jeff Altman. Hope you found this useful.
