Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. I received an E email today from one of my listeners to Job Search Radio that had a question for me. He basically says I am looking for a GM or senior sales and marketing management role, and he describes the size of the company he works in and his areas of expertise, which in his case is industrial manufacture or polymer constructed materials.

He tells me where he lives, where he is also open to, and then he continues and he did a good job here. I fully realized that at my level, networking should be the main focus of ever talking to several accounting people, lawyers, consultants and some business owners in the area, but have not found opportunities and targeted specific companies in trying to find some connections to gain a better understanding of the company’s trends, unmet needs before working to talk to an employee, but has not been very successful. Any tips would be useful.

Sorry now. I just want to hover in my chair for a moment and say this guy is doing a lot of the right things. I’ll add a few more here.

Business Coaches. CEO of the organization may be using a business coach. One of the largest, if not the largest, of Business Coaching Services is an organization called Vistage, Vistage that brings together small groups of small to medium -sized businesses.

Understand the interviewer

I tend to think of them as little ones, or they can refer to as small or SMB companies. Under $ 50 million in sales to meet on a monthly basis and get CEOs to work with each other to support each other. Mastermind groups.

Finding some of the Mastermind groups can also be a main point, and in reality it is as Vistage does here, as a Mastermind for CEOs. So business coaches, accounting people, lawyers, great approach to taking. Insurance people are fun because you sometimes hear about a business that is sold and there is someone who may be interested in buying a business.

It is not expressed here, but there may be an opportunity for someone to buy one of these companies that goes on sale. But basically this person does a lot of the right things and I praise them. The hard thing is when you first reach these people once, often it is the second or third approach, that’s what makes a difference.

After all, imagine what it is like to be on their side. Call, call. Hi, I’m looking for a job.

Do you know anything on my level with any of your clients? No, I don’t know anything but what they really say is that I don’t know you well enough to recommend you. So you have to build your credentials with them in order for them to have confidence enough to refer you to their client. After all, you reflect badly on them if you interview and do a bad job.

So again, it’s not just once. It’s several times. It goes to the Chamber of Commerce meetings for your areas and not just do it once, but does it several times, looking for ways to get business owners, business leaders, business managers, people who sell to these people on several occasions to get these connections to find work.
